Mill & Mortar’s five spice blend contains Sri Lankan cinnamon, allspice, ginger and cloves. The subtle anise flavour comes from fennel seeds and star anise. Add a generous pinch to stir fry sauces, dipping sauces and Asian stews.
For a simple marinade, combine five spice with neutral oil and aromatics like garlic and ginger. Leave your meat to sit in the marinade for a few hours before cooking. It will give chicken wings and pork belly that authentic Chinese BBQ flavour.
